Design and music share a universal rhythm—both are structured yet expressive, precise yet emotive. Growing up learning piano, I discovered how music embodies the principles of design. A melody flows like texture and movement, scales form a natural hierarchy, and contrasting genres create harmony through juxtaposition. The piano keyboard, repetitive in its arrangement, becomes a canvas where balance, rhythm, and unity come alive.
In this abstract book, I translate these musical insights into visual expressions of design principles. Using only black, white, and grayscale, I strip away distractions to focus on the essence of form and composition. Each page represents a single principle—movement, contrast, hierarchy, balance—echoing the structure and emotion found in a musical score.
This monochromatic approach mirrors the timeless simplicity of the piano keys, where endless creativity emerges from a limited set of tones. My goal is to show that design, like music, is not just a set of rules but a language of expression that resonates deeply across mediums.
